The Rutgers NJ Ballot Repository could never possibly house all ballots from every election in our history, but this is not our intention. Rather we want to first make available as many recent ballots as we can, and work our way back in time. This process is expected to take a few more years at our given rate.

Our repository is organized first by county, then by year, and then by either general or primary election. Visit the user guide for more information.

New ballots will be added to the New Jersey ballot depository on a rolling basis and when they become available to the public.

The New Jersey ballots have been collected by utilizing Open Public Records Act (OPRA). The Open Public Records Act was signed into law by then Acting Governor DiFrancesco which requires government records to be readily accessible for inspection, copying or examination.
The 21 county clerks in New Jersey have assisted in our request to obtain primary, general, and special election ballots.
